The single family residences as designed are two or three bedroom houses.
The total living area on the single family first floor living areas are approximately 1,412 sf.
The exteriors of the buildings are designed to be traditional in nature. Building forms utilize a gable roof design with countering gable and shed dormers as weather barriers over each unit entrance. Building massing’s are configured to create varying heights, scale, proportion as the basis of building composition. Building materials are also traditional, used in new applications. Color is used a means of creating variation with each building.
Environmentally, Meeting House Hill Park Redevelopment will incorporate energy efficient design in the use of building materials, lighting, mechanical systems and appliances. Each unit will have a solar array to provide a means of ‘net metering’ for energy credits. The array’s will be designed to meet the South Portland solar ordinance. Optional features in the single family houses will be gas fireplaces; gas stoves; An electric car charging circuit and a generator system.
Mechanically, the buildings will be heated and cooled with residential electric heat pumps. Each multi-family building and unit will be sprinklered with a NFPA system to be determined with local authorities. All appliances will meet Energy Star certification.
Re-cycling for the town’s single-sort recycling program will be made available within the mechanical/ sprinkler utility shelter attached to each of the multi-family buildings.
